  1. So great Beau! Icecubes comic so much fun. And I LOVED your YouTube interview… what a journey inspired by comics as a kid which sparked your creativity & tech smarts through the years & … print, TV, MTV,digital, web, magazines & art. What you’re doing now so clever in the iPhone space too. Lastly those Tin Tim & Casper images have planted a big smile on my face. I’m a kid again for today. Xxx

    1. Thank you so much Lindy. You were always so supportive even back in the day. One little word of encouragement is all it takes sometimes and I remember you always encouraging me. You guys are also so creative. Right back at you and to your boys!

    ICECUBES in French!

Recently, I sent an ICECUBES story to a French language comics magazine called “Spirou”.

    Spirou Magazine featuring the Smurfs.
    Spirou
is a classic cultural stalwart of European comics dating since before WWII. The magazine is perhaps most well known for premiering the world famous “SMURFS” along with other cherished European comics like “Lucky Luke” and “Gaston Lagaffe”. Spirou had an open call contest for a four page short story and I submitted an ICECUBES comic. While they did not select it to be published, it’s still fun to see the ICECUBES characters speaking French! You can download the entire story here, it makes for a good French lesson! >>

Russel Harvey interviews Jud Hurd – Classic Cartoon History

Here’s a really interesting historical interview on the topic of newspaper syndicated comics from an insider’s perspective. From Peanuts to Lil’ Abner, Family Circus and Prince Valiant, this was the golden age of newspaper comics.

Jud Hurd (1913 – September 14, 2005) was a syndicated newspaper cartoonist. His work included Ticker Toons and Health Capsules (United Feature Syndicate) for which he was awarded the National Cartoonist Society Special Features Award in 1978. For 36 years he continuously published and edited the quarterly magazine Cartoonist Profiles. Beginning with its premier issue in the winter of 1969 and ending 36 years later with issue 146 in June 2005. The magazine was a great insider source for professional syndicated cartoonists.

Russel Harvey is the son of Alfred Harvey, the founder of world famous Harvey Comics. With titles like Richie Rich, Dot Polka and Casper the Friendly Ghost, Harvey Comics was a staple of family friendly comics and cartoons for decades. Russel is himself a cartoonist, writer and standup comedian. He is a long time supporter and fan of ICECUBES and has graciously allowed me to post this video.

    I asked AI about ICECUBES.

Yes, there is a comic strip called “ICECUBES.” It is a newspaper-style, family-friendly comic strip and webcomic created by Leroy Brown. The strip features an ensemble of Arctic characters, including Peckinpaw the polar bear, Freeze the penguin, Eggman the walrus, and Nooky the Innupiaq Eskimo, who engage in humorous and often insightful cultural commentary from their icy perch atop the world. The comic is hand-drawn in the classic style of 20th-century newspaper strips, using nibs, brushes, and India ink on paper. It has been published for over 15 years (since 2009) and is available to read online at www.icecubescomic.com, where new updates are posted daily. The site offers over 200 pages of comics and blogs, and readers can access classic strips and behind-the-scenes content by becoming subscribers for $1 a month. Additionally, two volumes of collected strips, “ICECUBES Vol. 1: Noise Is News!” and “ICECUBES Vol. 2: THE i’S HAVE IT!,” are available in limited quantities through Chateau Books or as Kindle ebooks.
