Summer!

Hey friends! Here's a quick drawing I did while sitting at my table at a comic convention recently. I was inspired by the hot summer we're having. Speaking of temperature, some cool things are happening for ICECUBES. This September I will be part of a comics symposium hosted by the University of Houston-Clear Lake. It should be a lot of fun with great art and great talks by fellow cartoonists. Also premiering this summer is the Happy Comics comics page appearing in print in the Kingwood Monthly newspaper, featuring ICECUBES, Zombie Boy, Urban Jungle, Jim Corn and Spudcomics. It's great to see some 'cool' comics in print for the first time! So sit back and enjoy the warm weather and watch for more ICECUBES news coming real soon! :) Leroy Brown

Eggman and I certainly hope this year will bring more ICECUBES comic strips. If only we could find a way to make ICECUBES pay for itself. Oh, I know: please click on the ads. Every click counts! If every visitor just clicked one ad, ICECUBES would off and running. Freeze has been yelling in my ear that he wants a new ICECUBES Book to come out. I keep telling him that we still have a few copies of Vol. 1 “Noise Is News” available. It’s a beautiful offset printed book with over 100 pages in full color and because it was the very first print of the very first ICECUBES book it’s a collectible too. *Just click here to get it for only $10!

New ICECUBES Video Channel.

So this is something of a novel twist. For some reason that I can’t explain, Youtube and Google decided to lock the original ICECUBES channel. I have tried everything to get them to unlock it, to no avail. So, I finally decided to start a brand new ICECUBES video channel. The channel is called ‘Leroy Brown’ and you can find it using the handle: @icecubescomic.

Be the first new subscriber and receive a free signed ICECUBES poster! Hopefully this one won’t get locked and I can resume sharing ICECUBES videos with you. My big wish is that 2023 will see a revival of activity around the strip, fingers crossed. There are things happening in the background that I can’t talk about yet but I’ll let you know as soon as I can. Thanks for being such cool fans and continuing to check in. Well, Peckinpaw tried to create his first comic strip and while I thought it was great, his perennial critic Freeze was less encouraging as can be expected. Those two will never see eye to eye it seems. In any case, there perhaps is reason to celebrate as rumors are flying about a possible third ICECUBES book in the works! Shhh, nothing official yet, but let’s keep our fingers crossed. In the meantime, share the comic strip with your friends and tell them to click on the ads, it really helps!

Richie Rich vs Tintin

Richie Rich and Tintin — Really neat hidden Easter egg in vintage Richie Rich comicbook.

Look carefully at this vintage Richie Rich comic from 1977 (Super Richie #8 March 1977). It hides a really neat Easter egg surprise. The artist, who it seems is Warren Kremer, drew a Tintin album cover on the floor of Richie Rich’s library. See if you can spot it! That is so cool for 1977 when just about nobody in America knew about Tintin. But apparently Warren Kremer did and he must have enjoyed Tintin too because he wrote the cover in French. At the time there were very few English translations available yet and he must’ve bought a French one. That is really neat for me because it bridges the gap between two of my favorite comics from when I was a kid. I loved Richie Rich and all the Harvey Comics and then when I moved to France, I loved Tintin too. So great to have found this hidden surprise. Thanks Warren Kremer!

Master Comics Weird Cover – Retro Comics

Can anyone please tell me what Master Man is doing here? I just… It seems he is on some sort of super unstable looking skis and is tossing a mine???? But I still don’t get it. Wow, comics were sure weird back in 1940. I guess they still are nowadays, just more violent and bloody. So much for the comics code, right? Well at least ICECUBES is pretty tame, as long as Freeze doesn’t get carried away. I am working on the website redesign and fixing all the bugs. One thing I noticed is that the feed doesn’t seem to be working. I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime you can support the new redesign by clicking on the ads (it really helps!)

Dear Wonderful ICECUBES Fans! I decided to create a special Christmas Comic since it’s been such an unusual year. I just wanted to thank you all for the support and love you have shown towards ICECUBES for so long. In celebration of the season I have also decided to sell the original art for this comic. It is drawn, inked and painted by hand on a 11″x17″ Canson Fan Boy blueline comic page. India ink and watercolors were used. Bluelines are showing on the original art as well as some cut and pasted paper. The lettering is also hand drawn. The price is $100 (+ shipping) and I will donate 50% of the proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I will autograph the page and make it out to whomever you designate. Thank you again so much for being great fans and hopefully we’ll see more of the ICECUBES ‘cool crew’ in 2022! Christmas tree

Ha, ha, ha! 🙂 Check out this comic book cover from 1937! So similar to the cover page for ICECUBES’ first book ‘Noise Is News.’ I just saw this today and it made me smile. I had no idea I was channeling one of my all time favorites Mutt & Jeff cartoonist Bud Fischer. Oh well, great minds think alike.
