ICECUBES the comic strip. #0291

Posted on April 21, 2016 by Leroy Brown

Speaking of technology, did you know that you can navigate through all the past ICECUBES comic strips on the website by simply using your arrow keys? Try it! Just tap the back arrow and watch last week's comic pop right up! If you think that's amazing, you're right and it's all in large part thanks to a guy named Philip Hofer, otherwise known as Frumph. Back in the day when I decided to put ICECUBES online, I had no idea how to design a website. So I did my best to cobble together a botchy WordPress site. Little by little, through intensive research I finally came across ComicPress. ComicPress was a way to publish comics that could be read online in an intuitive, user friendly way. Setting it up wasn't easy especially since I wanted to customize my page. That's when I reached out to Comicpress's creator Frumph. Lo and behold he didn't hesitate to teach me all kinds of things about php, css and sundry variables that would allow ICECUBES to end up looking the way it does today. Over the months and years Frumph was always there to help with coding. Recently he helped me with a new comics project I am about to launch. So I decided to thank him in this post and point out that he now has a Patreon account where you too can get help with your comic site.

Will Henry: a gentleman and an artist.

I have to give a tip of the hat to @MrWillHenry for:
1/ taking time to answer my tweets
2/ being an inspiration with such great art
3/ getting me to go from 13×4" to 14×5" as my new format (see pic) I am still getting used to it but it is definitely more space. #comicstrips pic.twitter.com/YSjrECRDwf

Daredevil Dan Comic Book Ad

Posted on May 3, 2023 by Leroy Brown

I found this cool retro toy ad on the back cover of a Harvey Comics comic book from the ’70s. “Tournament of Thrills” and “Wild Power Spin-Outs”. Came with a “Mustang II”, Daredevil Dan, hook, thrill-bar, jump-ramp, barrels and a T-stick to rev up the car. 😀 I bet it was a bunch of fun too! Kenner always had the best cheap plastic toys and the best ads for them. Still amazes me to think that Kenner belonged to the General Mills cereal company. I always wondered who they would get to illustrate those ads. Whoever did it had to ink all the lettering and cram all that information into that drawing, not that easy!

A neat comic book ad from almost 50 years ago! Did you know that Kenner Toys actually belonged to General Mills? So a cereal company owned a toy company. Interesting. Thanks for checking in and stay tuned for more ICECUBES news coming soon! In the meantime click on the ads, it helps support the site.

Funny Inky Animal

Funny Animal by Leroy Brown ~ created while inking ICECUBES

Check out this goofy guy that popped up while I was inking the latest ICECUBES comic strip. I was just practicing before jumping onto the strip and this guy showed up. You can see I also practiced my lettering. ICECUBES is all hand-drawn, including he lettering (which is the hardest part!) Thanks for reading ICECUBES the comic strip and remember to click on the ads, it really helps!

Happy New Year 2023!

Posted on January 8, 2023 by Leroy Brown

Eggman and I certainly hope this year will bring more ICECUBES comic strips. If only we could find a way to make ICECUBES pay for itself. Oh, I know: please click on the ads. Every click counts! If every visitor just clicked one ad, ICECUBES would off and running. Freeze has been yelling in my ear that he wants a new ICECUBES Book to come out. I keep telling him that we still have a few copies of Vol. 1 “Noise Is News” available. It’s a beautiful offset printed book with over 100 pages in full color and because it was the very first print of the very first ICECUBES book it’s a collectible too. *Just click here to get it for only $10!

We all wish you a Happy New Year and want to say a big thanks for being cool ICECUBES fans!

New ICECUBES Video Channel.

Posted on November 21, 2022 by Leroy Brown

So this is something of a novel twist. For some reason that I can’t explain, Youtube and Google decided to lock the original ICECUBES channel. I have tried everything to get them to unlock it, to no avail. So, I finally decided to start a brand new ICECUBES video channel. The channel is called ‘Leroy Brown’ and you can find it using the handle: @icecubescomic.

Be the first new subscriber and receive a free signed ICECUBES poster! Hopefully this one won’t get locked and I can resume sharing ICECUBES videos with you. My big wish is that 2023 will see a revival of activity around the strip, fingers crossed. There are things happening in the background that I can’t talk about yet but I’ll let you know as soon as I can. Thanks for being such cool fans and continuing to check in. All my best wishes for a great holiday season!

News & Rumors.

Posted on October 31, 2022 by Leroy Brown

Well, Peckinpaw tried to create his first comic strip and while I thought it was great, his perennial critic Freeze was less encouraging as can be expected. Those two will never see eye to eye it seems. In any case, there perhaps is reason to celebrate as rumors are flying about a possible third ICECUBES book in the works! Shhh, nothing official yet, but let’s keep our fingers crossed. In the meantime, share the comic strip with your friends and tell them to click on the ads, it really helps!
Thanks for reading ICECUBES and stay tuned.

Richie Rich vs Tintin

Richie Rich and Tintin — Really neat hidden Easter egg in vintage Richie Rich comicbook.

Look carefully at this vintage Richie Rich comic from 1977 (Super Richie #8 March 1977). It hides a really neat Easter egg surprise. The artist, who it seems is Warren Kremer, drew a Tintin album cover on the floor of Richie Rich’s library. See if you can spot it! That is so cool for 1977 when just about nobody in America knew about Tintin. But apparently Warren Kremer did and he must have enjoyed Tintin too because he wrote the cover in French. At the time there were very few English translations available yet and he must’ve bought a French one. That is really neat for me because it bridges the gap between two of my favorite comics from when I was a kid. I loved Richie Rich and all the Harvey Comics and then when I moved to France, I loved Tintin too. So great to have found this hidden surprise. Thanks Warren Kremer!

Percy The Flying Chicken, Again.

Percy #2 reminder — Percy’s Plane has a Hiccup!

Percy The Flying Chicken now has his own page! You can go to it by clicking on the picture of Percy having mechanical difficulties with his plane. What do you think of the new strip? Does it merit its own page yet, after only two short strips? We’ll see I guess. In any case you can support Percy The Flying Chicken and ICECUBES by clicking on the ads!

Percy The Flying Chicken by Peckinpaw

Posted on March 19, 2022 by Leroy Brown

So he did it. Peckinpaw really did it. He finally created his own comic strip called Percy The Flying Chicken. What do you guys think? Do you think Peckinpaw has a future as a cartoonist? Leave him a comment. (Psst, he really needs to be encouraged, he is very shy!) Stay tuned and perhaps Peckinpaw will surprise us with even more comics. Please click on the ads. Every click counts!

Richie Rich Likes Sledding Too!

Posted on March 8, 2022 by Leroy Brown

Richie Rich cover — Richie Rich Cover Sled Ride

Here’s another sledding comic book cover. Even Richie Rich is getting in on the fun! I never knew how popular this kind of cover was. Just like the inside cover for ICECUBES the book Vol. 1. There are still a very few copies left of the first edition of “Noise is News” that you can buy from the ICECUBES store, click here<<

Master Comics Weird Cover – Retro Comics

Posted on February 15, 2022 by Leroy Brown

Can anyone please tell me what Master Man is doing here? I just… It seems he is on some sort of super unstable looking skis and is tossing a mine???? But I still don’t get it. Wow, comics were sure weird back in 1940. I guess they still are nowadays, just more violent and bloody. So much for the comics code, right? Well at least ICECUBES is pretty tame, as long as Freeze doesn’t get carried away. I am working on the website redesign and fixing all the bugs. One thing I noticed is that the feed doesn’t seem to be working. I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime you can support the new redesign by clicking on the ads (it really helps!)
