THANK YOU!
NCS Divisional Awards.
I entered ICECUBES into the National Cartoonist Society Divisional Awards for short form online comic. Keeping my fingers crossed! π
Comics Creator Caricature.
I make funny drawings so it’s only fair that cool caricaturist Richard Muniz should make a funny drawing of me! I met Richard at a local market fair and he helped me set up my tent and was not only a great caricaturist but also a really nice guy. His drawings are great and people were loving them. I was a little jealous of how quick Richard was with the pencil. If only I could draw that quick!
If you’re ever in the Houston area looking for a great caricature artist, give Richard a shout: ajcvr2000(at)gmail.com π

Super Comics Contest Special Prize!
Thomas Baer is our Special Prize winner! He wins a Limited Numbered Artist Edition of ICECUBES the comic book! Congratulations!
Monday’s contest was so successful and exciting, that I’ve decided to extend it and add a special prize! Folks, this one is a little bit harder and that’s because the special prize is a limited numbered Artist Edition of ICECUBES the book! There are very few left of the original 200 numbered artist edition copies and you can win one!
So to recap, we are celebrating the wonderful contribution of Belgian artists to the world of comics. Many world famous cartoon and comics characters have come from Belgium. Now that you know the answers to the first 3 questions (read Monday’s post here) try to answer these tricky ones:

- These 2 famous Belgian comics characters headlined their very own popular comics magazines. What are the names of these magazines in Flemish?

- These famous cartoon characters were all created by a group of artists who created a distinct style of Belgian comics. This style, or ‘school’ is named after which town in Belgium?
Super Comics Contest Give-Away!
To celebrate this, I’ve decided to start a week-long contest to see who knows their Belgian comics! So here goes: be the first person to answer the challenge (one prize per person please!)
- Third Prize:
- Second Prize:
- First Prize:
Funny Close-Up!
New Poster!
Striking A Pose!
I always sketch out difficult poses before committing them to paper. The thing you’re looking for is how to inject energy into the drawing. So imagine the characters are alive and moving around on the page. Sometimes it helps to close your eyes and picture it. Having said that, you can see that I erased plenty of times before getting it right. Don’t be afraid of using the eraser! Nobody is watching and sometimes it takes a lot of bad drawings to get a good one! π
Here’s the published comic. Note how the camera angle chopped off the legs, even though I drew them originally!
Changes.
Out With The Old…
I thought you might enjoy a very early sketch of Peckinpaw done several years ago when I was just coming up with the look for the denizens of ICECUBES. He sure looks different nowadays! That’s the theme this year: a new look and plenty of new things to look at!
There is a lot more coming up in the next few weeks so keep on checking out your favorite cool comic! π

Year In Review!
Well, here we are again at the beginning of a brand new year!
2014 holds some great surprises for ICECUBES fans and we’ll continue building on what we did in 2013!
A quick look back on the past year will reveal some pretty neat ICECUBES facts:
Show your support for ICECUBES by purchasing one of the remaining numbered artist editions of the book.

A quick look back on the past year will reveal some pretty neat ICECUBES facts:
* ICECUBES is regularly syndicated in print in the Kingwood Monthly newspaper. I also created and edit a full monthly comics page featuring other guest artists including Mark Stokes of Zombie Boy, David Wilborn of Urban Jungle, Michael Hawkins with Jim Corn, Lonnie Easterling with Spudcomics and Kim Belding with PicPak.
* ICECUBES was featured at the awesome Comiculture Symposium at the University of Houston in Clear Lake. I participated in a live panel with James Barr creator of The Crow and ICECUBES comic art was displayed in the University art gallery.
* ICECUBES the book is in 5 comic book stores all across the country!
* The first ICECUBES comic book is almost completely sold out. (some artist editions left)
* I started work on a book of my earlier more ‘underground’ strips called Atomik Comix. A zine preview was created for Houston Zine Fest and is still available for $1 + shipping.
* ICECUBES was submitted to some of the larger newspaper syndicates.
* More original art was sold at conventions and online. There is more original art up for sale, click here!
* ICECUBES premiered 2 animated comics! Woohoo! More to come.
* Finally, a big surprise is coming in the next few weeks… so stay tuned!
