  1. This strip is really meant to be seen on a wide screen, so load it up on your desktop to get the full effect! ?

  2. Please note that this comic strip was created weeks before current events and the timing is merely coicidental.

Charles ‘Sparky’ Schulz & Russel Harvey.

Charles Schulz and Russel Harvey A few years back I had the pleasure of meeting Russel Harvey, scion of Harvey Comics, at MoCCA in New York City.(You can read about our encounter here.) Since then, we have managed to stay in touch digitally and Russel even generously wrote a blurb for the back cover of ICECUBES the book! Russel posted this photo of himself with the great Charles ‘Sparky’ Schulz and I though I would share it with my readers. In particular I wanted to show everyone how incredibly big comics were drawn back then! I draw at about half that size these days. Of course that only applies to those of us who still draw on paper! πŸ˜‰

New Happy Comics Page!

Happy Comics page newspaper Take a look at the new *Happy Comics* page in the Kingwood Monthly newspaper! A real comics page in a real newspaper, woohoo! It looks great and that’s thanks to terrific cartoonists Mark Stokes of Zombie Boy Comics, Mark Wilborn of Urban Jungle, Lonnie Easterling of Spudcomics and Michael Hawkins of Jim Corn! The August issue is being put together as we speak. Good stuff! πŸ™‚

ICECUBES Syndication Submissions.

Dear Fans! ICECUBES is being submitted for syndication to major newspapers. This would be the culmination of all the hard work put in over the years and the great support you have shown all along. But I can’t do this without you! It’s easy to help out, all you need to do is click on this link to the ICECUBES Facebook page and read some ICECUBES comic strips. Click on the pages you like the best and the pages with the most ‘likes’ will get submitted to the syndicates. This way you are helping to make sure they see the strips you like the most. I can’t tell you how much your support for ICECUBES means. I create the strip for you and always have you in mind. Through the emails and tweets, meeting you at the comic conventions and finally sharing the book with you, your support makes ICECUBES come alive. Thank you so much for reading ICECUBES and let’s work to make the strip even bigger and better! πŸ™‚ Leroy Brown

Sketches for strip #0211.

These are some sketches for ICECUBES the comic strip #0211 featuring Freeze and Peckinpaw. Freeze trips while playing with his phone device and Peckinpaw makes a remark about technology. I always make prelim sketches before committing to the original. It helps me figure out placement, body attitudes and action. In this example you can also see some of the writing process. The writing is never done until the final lettering is inked. I even make changes before publishing if something doesn’t sit right! πŸ™‚ Here’s the final strip:

2012 Year In Review!

2012 was a big year for ICECUBES because of course the first ICECUBES book was printed!
πŸ™‚ “Noise Is News” is a success story from the very start, as it was entirely funded thru Kickstarter with the help of all you great fans! Thank you so much! The first printing of the book is more than two thirds sold out and fewer than 70 copies remain. Get yours soon if you haven’t yet! In other good news: ICECUBES is now available in select comic book stores and is syndicated in a couple of newspapers! If you want to see ICECUBES in your local comic book store or paper, tell them to contact me! Year in numbers:
  • 165,000 lifetime website visits
  • 2000 + ebooks downloaded from Amazon
  • #32,647 best rank on Amazon out of over 2,000,000 available titles (not bad!)
  • 1354 Facebook friends
  • 588 Twitter followers
  • 219 Facebook page fans
  • 100 Feed subscribers on average
  • 7 Conventions
  • 6 Podcasts
  • 4 Comic book stores
  • 2 Newspapers in syndication
  • 1 Book!
  • Of course not everything is super positive and a realistic assessment of where we are needs to include the fact that while Icecubescomic.com got 165,000 visits in over 4 years, some webcomics get that in a few hours! We have improved the site considerably, thanks mostly to Phil @Frumph! But more traffic would make a big difference. One reason the traffic is not larger is in part because new strips aren’t posted often enough. Since ICECUBES is entirely funded out of my pocket and I need to find other work to pay the family bills, sometimes the strip takes a back seat. That’s too bad, but the one way to improve the update frequency is to support the strip! To that effect I have enabled a subscription option on the site. You can subscribe for only ’25 a month! Yes, only a quarter a month to get every new strip directly in your inbox or RSS reader. Of course, you can still subscribe for free as well. This year I will be selling a lot more original art to raise funds for the strip, so buy some art! Tell a friend! Tell 10 friends about ICECUBES! πŸ™‚ Buy a book!

    Buy ICECUBES!

Hello friends! The year is almost over and it’s just about time to take a look back at everything ICECUBES has achieved in 2012. The one thing we can all agree on is that everyone wants more new strips! Of course, I do too. For now though I am basically a one man show, with help from my family and occasionally great people like Richard Evans at Bedrock City Comics. Sometimes things take a little longer than I would like and until ICECUBES is financially successful, making money for my family has to take precedence. So, the best way to see more strips more often is to support ICECUBES. Buy a book! It makes a great Christmas present that the whole family can enjoy! You can even get it at your local comic book store if you live in Houston, Chicago or New Orleans. If your store doesn’t carry it, ask them to! And if you want to buy a copy from me directly online, I’ll be sure to autograph it for you!
