ICECUBES the comic strip #355

Posted on May 17, 2024 by Leroy Brown

Wow folks, what a ride! Things got a little crazy for a while there but hopefully we can get back to normal now. Of course Freeze's movie was pretty exciting in itself. In addition, there has been a lot going on behind the scenes. We just switched hosting companies and this should make things a lot smoother. I have personally been very busy with conventions and Free Comic Book Day commissions. I am very grateful to Bedrock City Comics for inviting me to their in store events. I look forward to doing more and meeting new fans. And to top it off, it looks like ICECUBES vol.3 is on its way! I will be announcing the Kickstarter very soon, so stay tuned. Thanks for being such 'cool' ICECUBES fans!

Cool Lava!

Always liked the Lava soap logo and packaging. Don’t see it around quite as much anymore…

If you have any ‘coolpix’ send them in to icecubescomic (at) yahoo.com!

Draw anything you see- that’s the best practice. These are some of my old sketchpad drawings. 🙂

Inazuma 11!

Posted on May 4, 2011 by Leroy Brown

Leo did this great drawing of his new favorite cartoon Inazuma 11. It’s not out in the US yet, but it looks pretty cool. I always thought a cartoon about a soccer team would be a great idea!

Here’s a ‘cool’ logo for a ‘cool’ company!

I didn’t design the logo- I just like it 😉

Blobs.

Eggman is the perfect character to show off the ‘blobs’ drawing technique. I find that the best way to give the characters more of a real feeling is to think of them as being made of blobs. By drawing big round blobs I can work out their positions and get a sense of their place in space. It also helps to give them some weight so they don’t look like they are two dimensional or floating in the panel. Here’s a great example of drawing blobs.

King of the Hill.

Posted on April 25, 2011 by Leroy Brown

My favorite cartoon is by far King of the Hill. I just love the understated tone and the rhythm of the stories. It’s not full of slap dash one liners, sex jokes or poop humor. It’s hard to write like that and I think Mike Judge of Beavis and Butthead fame created a good cartoon.

One of Bill Dauterive’s relatives.

Everybody knows Hank Hill’s self loathing neighbor Bill Dauterive. The inside joke is that one of the original writers and executive producer’s name is Jim Dauterive. Here’s picture proof that there’s another Dauterive out there too! 🙂

Reference Sketches.

When I’m doing a comic that includes unusual backgrounds or props I’ll go and get references to draw from. Here I needed some props for an abandoned arctic research lab. It’s always a good idea to draw from real life.

Hey Zoe, thanks for the great drawing of Peckinpaw! 🙂

Giant Penguin!

Here’s a picture of me standing next to a giant penguin! It’s a real size model of Pachydyptes the New Zealand Giant Penguin! He lived about 30 million years ago in New Zealand and was over 5 feet tall! I took this picture at the Auckland Museum in Auckland New Zealand.©ICECUBES

I wonder what Freeze would think? 🙂
