Here’s something kinda ‘cool’. I came upon a Rocky and Bullwinkle storyboard online at Heritage Auctions. It’s really neat to see how they put ideas together for that great cartoon. It’s episode #67 called “The Overland Express” from 1962.
Vinyl toys are very popular, especially for manga characters and super-hero stuff. Here are some vinyl figures for Euro-comics that are pretty cool. I especially like the dragon with the tiny Papa Smurf! 🙂
Disneyland Magazine published out of the UK in the 60s-70s. Great painting of Pablo the ‘cold-blooded penguin’ who is off on an adventure. I wonder if Freeze is related? 🙂
ps: I’ll be selling a lot of my Disney stuff on Ebay soon. If you are interested ping me.
Paris, the kid in the picture, got an autographed copy of “THE i’S HAVE IT!” and a hand drawn sketch card featuring Peckinpaw. But that’s just part of the story. Paris is in the hospital waiting for a transplant.
Steve Barr, who is a cartoonist also, is the one who made the pledge on Kickstarter for a copy of the new ICECUBES comic book. I had no idea at the time, but it turns out that Steve Barr runs a really neat cartooning program for pediatric patients at hospitals. He gives kids free cartooning classes, art supplies and copies of his own great cartoon books. Little did I know that he was buying the ICECUBES book for Paris. In fact the way this Kickstarter was shaping up, I wasn’t even sure the book was going to get funded at all.
When I launched the Kickstarter last May I worked hard to make the project videos good and was really proud of the book and the poster, but I didn’t know what the response would be. I was hoping for a run away hit of course, but after the first week it looked like the whole thing was falling apart.
At that point I started feeling very sorry for myself. I was also a bit angry. I even wrote a concession speech, trying to explain why we had failed and what a shame it was to not get this book published. But in the middle of the night, I read an anonymous tweet that said something like:
‘Losers look for ways to deal with their feelings, winners look for ways to fix whats broken.’
Right then and there I decided I would at least do everything I knew to try to get the book funded so that in the end whether it made it or not I could feel good about myself. And so I started a media blitz. I am sure you all got the emails and updates! Some even unsubscribed, but not many. If you look at the graph, things started drastically turning around close to the end. In fact, we went from 40% to fully funded in three days! It was a wild ride.
On the last day, with two hours left to the Kickstarter, we still were not 100% funded but I needed to go to a meeting and couldn’t stay and watch the finale. When I got home that night my wife told me we had made it! The book was 100% funded! And the very last pledge came from Steve Barr!!
The great thing is that I had promised an original drawing to whomever had the pledge that put us over the top. Steve had no idea. So Steve got the special prize and it couldn’t have gone to a better person. Isn’t that a great story?
Thanks so much for being fans and letting ICECUBES be a part of other people’s lives. 🙂

From Australia, to the Philippines, France to Canada, New Jersey to California, the new ICECUBES comic book is making its way around the world. It’s so much fun to hear from all of you. Thanks for being super ICECUBES fans! 😀
Hi folks! All the books have shipped! Thanks to 48 amazing backers, the book was funded and shipped in less than a month!
Every ICECUBES backer got a copy of “THE i’S HAVE IT!” and a hand drawn sketch card. The 48 cards make up a complete set of “Pinochle” playing cards and everyone has a different card.
We also printed an original ICECUBES poster that features over 100 drawings of Peckinpaw, Freeze, Eggman and Nooky!
All that is left is for me to thank you so very much for successfully backing two original ICECUBES books and showing so much incredible support for this com strip. Thank you! 🙂

Hey folks! Over the weekend I announced that everyone who pledged for the new ICECUBES book on Kickstarter will get an original hand drawn sketch card, regardless of their pledge level. Since 48 ICECUBES friends pledged that means I will be drawing 48 cards and that’s where the fun begins!
Recently, for my birthday my wife gave me a special ‘Pinocle’ 48 card deck as a way to remember this classic ICECUBES comic strip:click for larger view
Well, it struck me that since I am going to draw 48 sketch cards and my new ‘Pinocle’ deck has 48 cards, I am going to make an ICECUBES 48 card ‘Pinocle’ deck! 😀
Every fan who pledged on Kickstarter will get an original card from the deck! Just think, you can compare cards and maybe even trade them. Maybe one day I’ll get the deck printed too!
Just another way for me to say thanks for all your great support!

All the supplies have finally arrived! The new books, the posters and the sketch cards are all here. That means that the packages can start going out in the mail right away!
I’ve decided that since everyone was so supportive and instrumental in getting this book funded that I will make a sketch card for each and every backer – all 48 of you! I promise to draw the sketch cards as speedily and ‘cool’ as I can.
Thank you all so much for making this such a great success! 🙂
