Gone Fishing!

Dear ICECUBES friends, No doubt you have been wondering aloud "why haven't there been any new ICECUBES comic strips lately?" The reason unfortunately is that I have been ill. Of course being not only the author, but also the publisher, colorist, promoter and webmaster of ICECUBES when I am out of commission the strip truly goes silent. There isn't a contingency plan, like hiring another cartoonist or running funny cat videos. I decided not to post classic ICECUBES strips either. So the strip goes silent for awhile. Add to that the fact that I need to work on my paying jobs every now and then so I can continue to afford sandwiches! As if those weren't decent enough excuses, I must also inform you that the computer I use to scan the comics is kaput! Yep, broken. It is I admit a very old machine but such is the life of the artist. Thankfully, my dear friends, you have made the latest ICECUBES book "THE i'S HAVE IT!" a runaway success and the first print run is completely sold out! I am so grateful for the support and attachment you have shown for ICECUBES. Of course if you believe that fixing the old computer might help get more ICECUBES strips published, feel free to become a Patron on Patreon. Dallas Webcomic Convention.

Leroy Brown being interviewed by Fes from Webcomic Beacon. Over the weekend my family and I drove to Dallas to be part of Stripcon, the Dallas Webcomic Convention. I was interviewed by Fes over at Webcomic Beacon, so keep an eye out for that podcast.

It was great seeing fellow comickers Jason Poland (http://robbieandbobby.com/), Brad Diller (http://cartoons.fundaymorning.com/), Barry Buchanan (http://dontfeedthegeek.com/), Brad Campbell (http://roofuscomic.blogspot.com/), Jeremy Johnson (http://www.toomasooba.com/), Hector Cantu (http://www.gocomics.com/baldo), Michael Hawkins (http://jimcorncomic.com/) and David Wilborn (http://www.urbanjunglecomic.com/). Unfortunately some of us felt that there really was not much of a crowd. Note to con organizers: it’s your job to bring in the visitors, not merely charge artists for table space. I did get to meet some new readers and sell the new ICECUBES book.

Supersized.

Check out the size of the latest strip I drew! I decided to make it the same size as newspaper comic artists used to draw comics. All that space to fill was both daunting and liberating. I think that if I ever have to draw a story with lots of detail I’ll do it this size again. It was a bit of a challenge to ink and in order to get good thick lines I decided to go with a Windsor Newton brush instead of nibs. Fun stuff! See the published strip here!

Dear ICECUBES supporters, the time has come! Pow! Just like that, the book is finally ready to send to the printers. There is only one thing remaining for me to do and that is to thank you! Thank you for making this book become a reality. It represents a lot of time and effort and you made it all possible. All going well, the first copies should be going out within 2 to 3 weeks. For all of you who pre-ordered signed copies, you will be getting yours first. Every single Kickstarter pre-ordered copy will be numbered from 1 to 200, so you all will be owning an instant collectors item! For our wonderful overseas fans, be sure to allow a little longer for the books to arrive. Don’t worry, they are coming!
