I used to live in Paris and I read <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charliehebdo.fr\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charlie Hebdo<\/a><\/strong> through the 1980s. I thought the drawings were sloppy and the jokes sometimes lame, but I liked the format and the rollicking no-holds-barred attitude and freedom they enjoyed. I knew <strong>Cabu<\/strong> and <strong>Wolinski&#8217;s<\/strong> work well and I still have old issues of the mag. They were the equivalent of the underground American cartoonists of the 60s and 70s. They lampooned everyone &#8211; the church, the pope, the president, actors, celebrities &#8211; sort of like an X-rated version of Mad magazine.
